Setšong is made up of artisanal, handcrafted tea products that are crafted from wild harvested, indigenous, African plants found in the natural landscapes of South Africa; more prominently within the rural areas of Limpopo.

Through tea harvesting & crafting, Setšong aims to develop the economy, establish and create jobs within the rural areas of South Africa.

Setšong works in collaboration with community elders, who are indigenous knowledge practitioners, to create a range of tea blends, using the region’s diya root and tepane leaf which contain high anti-oxidants and minerals to rejuvenate and balance the body.

Community elders are consulted at every step in order to preserve and celebrate the provenance of the plants and the land from which they come.

These artisanal teas have proved to stand out with them being a first entry of tea from the Sekhukhune district of Limpopo.

These tea products have been consumed for over five generations by Bapedi in Sekhukhune which results in a great deal of heritage and history being associated with all of our teas.

Let us take you on our vehicle of discovery…..

ABOUT TEPANE TEA:

Tepane tea is a BLACK BUSH TEA containing Anti-oxidants, Vitamin A, C, E and Zinc with a potential role in preventing degenerative diseases.

Vitamin A is responsible for nourishing and revitalizing all secreting cells of the body such as eyes, nasal mucus, saliva cells and oesophageal and gastric secretions including reproductive secretions and sweat glands. Thus preventing diseases such as Conjunctivitis, Sinusitis, Oral thrush, Gastric ulcers, and Cancer.

Vitamin C is responsible for boosting and strengthening individual cells of the body and increasing the detoxification of all toxins in the body. Therefore it assists in preventing viral infections, bacterial infections and a wide range of microorganisms. It also contributes to skincare etc.

Vitamin E is responsible for nourishing hair, skin, nails and reproductive health. It is also responsible for the prevention of cancerous cells to the above-mentioned areas of the body.

Zinc is an essential mineral that activates and balances the hormones, hence boosts and balances the immune system, combined with above vitamins it acts as a catalyst for the overall homeostasis of the body.

ABOUT DIYA ROOT TEA:

Diya Tea is a RED ROOT TEA that is high in fiber and contains Beta Carotene and Zinc.

Beta Carotene like all carotenoids, is an antioxidant. An antioxidant is a substance that inhibits the oxidation of other molecules (detox); it protects the body from free radicals (toxins). Free radicals damage cells through oxidation.  Eventually, the damage caused by free radicals can cause several chronic illnesses. Beta Carotene is already a converted Vitamin A that is ready to be absorbed by the cells that are affected by Vitamin A as mentioned above.

Zinc is an essential mineral that activates and balances the hormones, hence boosts and balances the immune system, combined with above vitamins it acts as a catalyst for the overall homeostasis of the body.

Fiber assists in normalizing bowel movements, improving digestion, lowering cholesterol levels, controlling blood sugar levels and achieving a healthy weight. In people with diabetes, fiber, particularly soluble fiber, can slow the absorption of sugar and help improve blood sugar levels. A healthy diet that includes insoluble fiber may also reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
